28 Leeds Street was established in response to problems we believe exist in the de-facto ARI model in Melbourne, particularly:
- High cost of holding exhibitions
- Lack of variety in spaces—typically all 'white cubes'
- Rigidity in exhibition duration
We also want to encourage others to tackle these problems in their own way, and to promote engagement with exhibition spaces as tools
28 Leeds street is run by Erin Crouch and Rylie James Thomas, and is situated in our home in Footscray. This allows us to keep costs down, and be flexible with when and how the gallery is open.
We hope this space will be used in a variety of ways, and we’re open to accepting proposals for projects, exhibitions, workshops, discussion groups etc.
